BluePearl Veterinary Technician - Surgery - Vet Tech in Tampa, Florida

BluePearl’s Tampa location is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Technician – Surgery - Vet Tech

Participation in the surgery on-call rotation is a requirement. Experience in Surgery and/or other specialty service is preferred. Candidates should also be able to create a work environment that encourages teamwork while fostering excellent patient care and exemplary customer service. Someone who is self-motivated, a quick thinker, and someone who is able to multi-task efficiently. LVT/CVT is preferred but not required

Experienced Surgical Tech needed for busy surgery service. Duties include, but not limited to: efficient and thorough client communication; knowledge and understanding of common soft tissue, orthopedic, neurologic, laproscopic and arthroscopic procedures; perform digital radiographs and CT imaging; able to induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients assigned ASA III & IV classification; competent with all CRI's, properly set up and monitor blood product transfusions.

Surgery Technicians should be comfortable handling sedation and basic to advanced anesthesia cases. They should be capable of taking x-rays at an intermediate level.

The primary function of the Surgery Veterinary Technician Level I is to be responsible for treatments of stable hospitalized patients and stable outpatient diagnostics and treatments.

  • Provides nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.

  • Ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.

  • Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.

  • Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.

  • Able to set up intravenous fluids.

  • Administers subcutaneous fluids.

  • Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.

  • Able to disconnect and connect patient from intravenous fluids aseptically.

  • Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
